Do you know what anti-colic bottles are for? And why both bottles and anti-colic nipples can be useful for baby feeding? We discover what they consist of.

There is no doubt that, for a mother, making the decision to stop breastfeeding even when she wants to continue breastfeeding is always a very difficult and painful decision. The reasons that would have led you to take it can actually be very varied, although the most common are related to the different problems that usually arise with breastfeeding: mastitis, irritated and cracked nipples…

The truth is that these types of common problems have an easy solution, it is enough to position the baby correctly. In a few takes, irritated and cracked nipples will heal, since the little one’s own saliva and your own milk act as healing and healing remedies.

But what to do when the baby suffers from infant colic? Infant colic is a common and typical disorder typical of the baby’s first months of life, consisting of painful contractions of the abdomen. Although it is true that there is no specific cause that triggers them, the use of an anti-colic bottle can be of some help.

What are anti-colic bottles?

When a baby takes a bottle with some anxiety because he is not allowed to drink milk at the rate that he wishes to do so, it generates negative pressure each time he removes the milk, which can cause excessive air to enter through the nipple hole until that the pressure is balanced, and some of the nutritional components present in the milk can even be degraded, since the air passes through the milk oxygenating it.

As you can surely imagine, choosing the most suitable bottle for your baby’s needs is as fundamental as it is essential. In fact, the most normal thing is that at the beginning we have doubts about what type of bottle to choose, especially if we take into account the very wide diversity that exists in the market today, with wide and tremendously varied options.

The so-called anti-colic bottles, as their name suggests, add a certain functionality that allows air to enter as the baby extracts the milk, so that it is the baby who can regulate the rate of milk output that he wants with much less efforts.

And what functionality do they add? There are different types: some for example add a second hole in the nipple that allows air to enter the bottle but not milk, solving the negative pressure. Others, however, what they do is add a had that takes the air directly to the bottom of the bottle, not going through the milk.

And the anti-colic nipples?

On the other hand, in addition to anti-colic bottles we can also find anti-colic nipples.  They are teats that differ from the normal ones in that they are provided with a ventilation system. The function of the ventilation system is to prevent the baby from swallowing air while taking the bottle, thus reducing the risk of gas colic.

There are also anti-colic nipples on the market that are equipped with valves. These valves are placed at the base of the nipple and while the baby sucks it works by eliminating the vacuum and thus preventing him from swallowing air.

Why use anti-colic nipples?

Very simple: because as the name suggests, they are teats that help prevent baby colic, so common and very common when the little one drinks artificial or breast milk through the bottle.

Of course, in addition to the nipples being anti-colic, it is also essential that they are anatomical, since this type of nipple has a shape that is most similar to the mother’s nipple.
