The carbohydrates (also known as sugars), they become a source of energy for the body, to assist in the mind of people, along which feed the nervous system and brain activity itself own.

In this sense, the brain almost exclusively needs a constant supply of glucose, since it uses approximately 140 g. per day, an amount that –in fact- can represent up to 50% of the total carbohydrates consumed.

What are carbohydrates made of?

The carbohydrates, chemically, are composed of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. Given the combination of these chemical elements, it is what will end up defining whether we are dealing with a simple or complex carbohydrate.

Types of carbohydrates

  • Simple carbohydrates
they are usually those commonly provided by refined sugars. They are, in fact, considered empty calories, since they are either expended or accumulated in the form of fat.
This is because, as they can be absorbed by our body very quickly and well, they quickly raise insulin, which offers the possibility of using glucose, but also the synthesis of triglycerides (lowering high triglycerides). At this point, and since insulin works just as fast, glucose levels drop and hunger reappears.
  • Complex carbohydrates
they are the most recommended, since they tend to be absorbed more slowly than simple ones, at the same time that they provide extra vitamins, proteins, minerals and a lot of fiber.
For this reason, glucose does not rise as much, since it increases steadily, not creating a feeling of hunger next.
We find them in legumes, potatoes, whole grains, fruits, vegetables …
