More and more people like horror movies and movies. But, do you really know what are the reasons why this film of pure fear attracts us so much?

Although there are still many people who cannot witness them, there are others for which horror films are like a kind of magnet from which they cannot be detached.

Ever since they hit “play” and soak up its gloomy and terrifying atmosphere, they have an overwhelming desire to know what the cruel fate of their protagonist will be. The worst of all is that many times he will end up dying for the murderer on duty in a chase that will surely have a bloody and violent end.

So why are we drawn to these kinds of tapes? Why don’t we look away at certain scenes?  Well, even science has found a logical explanation for this phenomenon so common in our society

We came to empathize with the main protagonist

Just when any self-respecting horror movie starts, we are introduced to the main character who is always in a somewhat conflictual situation. Most of the time they are situations similar to those that we can live in our day to day. And that is where we begin to empathize with the protagonist of the film along with all his stress and concerns.

Everything is getting worse until the murderer on duty appears and tries to kill the main character of the story. As we have already created a certain emotional bond with him, it is normal that in part we “suffer” throughout the entire film.

All of this grows more and more when we see him in a moment of maximum tension where even his life is in danger. We already take it personally and hence we have the urgent need to know what is happening at all times. For this reason, we stay hooked on the screen until we know the cruel? Fate of our beloved and beloved character.

Here it already depends a little on the skill of the director and the editing of the film to achieve this feeling. But if what is achieved is for the viewer to soak up all this dark, violent and gloomy atmosphere, surely the success of the film will be assured.

As human beings that we are, sometimes we are attracted to the suffering of others because thanks to him our most primitive feelings flourish and therefore we feel human.

They fill our most primal instincts

Human beings do not stop being animals with a super developed intelligence. However, this does not mean that sometimes our most primal instincts are awakened, which were very present in prehistory. In those moments we had to hunt and kill to survive like any animal species.

And therefore, it is normal that these very primal feelings are still a bit inherent within ourselves.

To be understood, every time we visualize a horror movie and we feel identified with the protagonist, it is as if an injection of adrenaline runs through our entire body. We feel like the survival institute is activated and puts us in a state of alert. This is a feeling that fortunately we do not have to experience during our day to day life. And therefore, every time we feel it, it is like something completely new to us.

This creates a kind of healthy “addiction” that is born out of the simple curiosity to experience good things and therefore there is no need to be ashamed of it. We are curious beings by nature and therefore it is very normal that many of us are attracted to scary movies. And you? Do you dare to turn off the light tonight and start watching a horror movie? Arm yourself with courage and later you will realize that it is not so bad!
