Did you know that you can also make a wonderful vegan rice pudding at home? We propose this delicious recipe made with oat milk, almonds or any other vegetable drink.

There are typical and traditional desserts that are very popular, not only for the little ones but also for the older ones. And depending on where we are in the world, we can enjoy precisely those culinary delights that are characterized above all by one thing: they are sweet! And there is no doubt that they are delicious.

In our country, for example, we find the wonderful torrijas, that delicious dessert so characteristic of Lent and Easter, consisting of a slice of bread soaked in milk, honey and spices, battered in egg and fried in a pan with oil.

Or the quesada pasiega, typical of a beautiful Cantabrian region called Los Valles Pasiegos, and which is a wonderful sponge cake made of curdled cow’s milk, wheat flour, butter, eggs and sugar.

But if there is a traditional and classic dessert par excellence, it is probably the wonderful  rice pudding.

As its name suggests, it basically consists of slowly cooking rice in milk with sugar, accompanied by cinnamon, vanilla essence and lemon peel (in order to flavor it). Your advantage? It can be served hot or cold, and provides a wide variety of benefits.

For example, from a nutritional point of view we are faced with a delicious dessert with a high content of minerals and vitamins. The presence in its composition of calcium, iodine, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, selenium, zinc, iron, vitamin A, B complex vitamins and vitamin D stands out.

But as we have indicated before, it is a dessert that is traditionally made with milk of animal origin (commonly with cow’s milk, although it can also be made with goat’s milk or sheep’s milk).

That is why it is a recipe that many vegetarians and vegans ignore. Up to now. Did you know that you can substitute milk of animal origin for vegetable milk (or what is the same, for your favorite vegetable drink)? This time we explain how to make it with oat milk or almond milk. And, of course, you can also make it with rice milk.

Vegan rice pudding recipe


  • 125 grams of white rice
  • 1 liter oat milk (you can substitute almond milk or rice milk)
  • 125 grams of sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Cinnamon powder (to taste)
  • The peel or skin of 1 lemon

Preparation of vegan rice pudding:

Wash the lemon well and carefully remove its skin. Put the lemon peel in a saucepan together with the milk and the cinnamon stick. Boil the milk, so that when it reaches a boil add the white rice. Now lower the heat, cover and continue cooking, stirring occasionally for at least 30 minutes.

Add the sugar just before finishing cooking the rice. Then carefully remove the lemon peel and cinnamon stick.

Ready! When serving the rice pudding, pour a little cinnamon powder on top. To enjoy.

Vegan rice pudding and raisins recipe

This time we propose a different recipe, which you will surely love if you like raisins. As you will see, the preparation is quite similar to the previous recipe, with the difference that this time we will use these nuts in its preparation. Take note.


  • 125 grams of white rice
  • 1 liter of oat milk (or rice, or almonds).
  • 125 grams of sugar
  • a handful of raisins
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Cinnamon powder
  • The peel of 1 lemon

Preparation of vegan rice pudding and raisins:

The process to follow is practically the same as in the previous recipe. But with one difference: just before finishing cooking the rice, before turning off the heat and after adding the sugar, add a handful of raisins, stirring well with the help of a wooden spoon.

Finally, remove the cinnamon stick and lemon peel, and when serving, if you prefer, sprinkle cinnamon powder on top.
