Do you know what foods produce gas, flatulence and aerophobia and you surely don’t know them? We will discover them in this article, so that you avoid consuming them or at least reduce them.

There is nothing more annoying than having gas, especially when we are at a meal in the company of more people, or when these ultimately appear every time we eat. The truth is that we always have gases, the only thing that when they appear excessively is when we notice that they are there. In these cases, what is known as aerophobia appears, the causes of which are actually very varied. It is precisely when a lot of gases accumulate in our digestive system that the related discomforts arise: abdominal bloating, pain and unpleasant flatulence.

In our digestive tract, it is normal that after each meal, gases produced by carbon dioxide, hydrogen (and in a third of people also methane gas) are formed, as a result of the air we swallow when we eat , due to the presence of enzymes and bacteria and their nutrients.  In fact, it is an absolutely normal process during the digestive process.

The most common causes that cause the appearance of gases

There are several causes that can cause the appearance of annoying stomach and intestinal gases. The most common are the following:

  • Swallowing too much air when eating: it is normal that, every time we eat, we swallow air when swallowing food, especially if we speak while we are doing it. But when we swallow more air than we should, that is when flatulence will appear later.
  • Eating very quickly: it is another of the most common causes of the appearance of gas, since we do not chew food correctly and it is more common for flatulence to form, since when eating fast it is also common to swallow more air.
  • Nervousness and anxiety: both anxiety and stress and also nerves tend to influence the appearance of gas, especially when we eat with nervous tension (since we tend to eat faster, poorly and also our digestive system will not do digestion well).
  • Lactose intolerance: lactose intolerance is another of the most common causes of the appearance of annoying gases, especially when milk with lactose and its derivatives is consumed in those who do not tolerate it.
  • Some digestive diseases and disorders: such as irritable bowel disease, Crohn’s disease, diverticulitis, problems with the pancreas or problems with the intestinal flora (for example, lack of intestinal flora or digestive enzymes).

What foods produce gases?

The truth is that there are some foods that are well known precisely for tending to produce gases when they are consumed more regularly or regularly than others.

Thus, for example, we can mention two groups:

  • Foods rich in slow absorption carbohydrates: such as legumes (especially lentils, chickpeas and beans), corn and pasta.
  • Dairy products: as is the case with cow’s milk and its derivatives, especially cream, cream cheese, aged cheeses and ice cream.
  • Vegetables and greens: cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, onion, artichokes, cucumbers, radishes, asparagus, turnips and green pepper are very popular in this regard.
  • Certain fruits: such as the pear saucepan, plums and grapes.
  • Mushrooms: like mushrooms.

And what other foods do they also produce but surely you don’t know about?

As we can see, there are certain foods or food groups that stand out for being very popular because many people know that they tend to produce gases, to a greater or lesser extent and in more or less quantity, depending on each one.

However, we can also mention other lesser known ones, which will surely surprise you. The following stand out above all:

  • Certain nuts: especially raisins (or raisins).
  • Apple: for its high content of fiber, fructose and sorbitol.
  • Oats: although oats are considered one of the most complete and nutritious cereals that exist, did you know that eaten raw tends to cause a lot of gas?
  • Grape juice: for its high sugar content. We can also mention, in general, juices with a lot of sugar.

We must bear in mind that, although these foods tend to produce gases, to a greater or lesser extent it will depend directly on each person, so it is possible that eating raw oats does not make you feel bad or cause flatulence, and yet someone else does.
