This is a fairly common belief: skipping a meal is helpful for weight loss and weight loss.  However, the truth is that it is a fairly common error. Find out why.

This is a much more common belief than you think, especially among those who want to lose weight quickly and who do not even hesitate to put their health at risk in order to lose those extra kilos.

Both overweight and obesity have become a real problem for many people in recent decades. In fact, every year thousands of new cases of obesity are diagnosed in our country alone, while the number of people who suffer from excess weight is even increasing.

In most cases, this overweight is prevented by following a healthy life, maintaining a balanced but healthy diet, and practicing physical exercise every day.

Taking into account the large number of cases of obesity that currently exist, it is normal that there is a wide variety of diets everywhere, many of them as dangerous as they are not very effective.

But there are also advice or wrong habits that are supposed to help you lose weight, when originally not only your health is put at risk, but precisely the opposite happens.

Skipping some of the meals that we should make a day is a fairly common practice in these cases. But, although it is followed by many people, it seems that it is a dangerous and originally ineffective idea.

Is it true that skipping a meal helps you lose weight?

It is a fairly widespread belief, especially in those people who want to lose weight quickly and at all costs without thinking that, with this type of practice, originally the only thing that is achieved is to endanger their health.

However, as we imagine you may have already assumed, it is a myth, an erroneous belief, and in fact it becomes one of the most frequent mistakes when it comes to losing weight.

As you know, dividing meals into a total of 5 meals a day we ensure that our metabolism is continuously working to burn what we consume. In addition, by not having a completely empty stomach, the sensation of appetite, tends to be much less than if we do not eat.

We must not forget that skipping a meal causes an increase in insulin production, so the greater the amount of insulin, the greater the sensation of appetite and therefore the amount of food that our body needs to satisfy itself.

This means that if we skip a meal, we will arrive at the next one ravenously hungry.

How many meals should we eat a day?

Although it is usual to have only three meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner), it is best to eat five meals a day.

These meals should be divided as follows: a varied breakfast rich in healthy foods (such as fruits or fruit juices, dairy products and farinaceous products such as bread or toast), a small snack in the middle of the morning (a piece of fruit is the best choice), lunch, a snack (a yogurt or a piece of fruit with tea may be useful), and a dinner (which should be light, especially based on foods rich in protein).
