Did you know that nuts are not actually fattening? The truth is that not only do they not gain weight, but they could even help you lose weight, as shown by most studies carried out.
It is very common to read that nuts are fattening, especially because in its nutritional composition we can find a high fat content, so that its caloric content is equally high.
Of course, we must bear in mind that it is not the same to consume raw nuts, than those that, for example, have been cooked or fried, some products or snacks that – incidentally – tend to be very common in supermarkets and large surfaces: fried peanuts, roasted or fried almonds…
However, today it cannot really be said that nuts are fattening. If we speak of the results of a meta-analysis, which has confirmed that the consumption of nuts does not cause overweight, nor does it cause an accumulation of fat body.
Studies show that nuts are not actually fattening
Unlike what is usually thought, the reality is that one of the main qualities or nutritional benefits of nuts is that they increase thermogenesis – calorie combustion – so that the consumption of nuts would not only not make you fat, but they even help to keep the metabolism active for a longer period of time.
This could translate into something even easier to understand: the higher the consumption of nuts, the lower the body weight. In fact, although up to now a daily consumption of no more than 25 grams of nuts was advised, the reality is that even those people who in the different tests carried out consumed more than 100 grams of nuts a day, this consumption is not translated into an increase in body weight. In some cases there was even a decrease in weight.
The American Dietetic Association itself states that although nuts are high in calories and fat, new scientific research has shown that they can help with weight loss.
Therefore, if you like nuts as much as we do, remember that they are not actually fattening, they can help you lose weight and are even beneficial for your heart and for your own cardiovascular health.
Of course, if you do not want to add extra calories unjustifiably and that would make you fat, always try to opt for natural nuts, never fried.
