What color of eyes and hair will the baby have?

When we are going to have a child we always ask ourselves what it will be like, what personality it will have, and what color of eyes or hair it will have. What influences it? Find out.

One of the traits that parents pay attention to the most when their child is born is precisely the color of the eyes. It should be noted that sometimes it is impossible to make a completely solid and demonstrable forecast on this issue since the tone of the child’s iris and hair can vary with the passage of weeks from the precise moment that his mother gives birth.

This is definitely the world of genetics. Equally as fascinating as it is most enigmatic.  In fact, despite the fact that there are many scientific studies that have tried to clarify this issue, most of them have not been able to establish a clear and defined pattern that tells us for sure what the color of the eyes or hair will be. Our son / daughter.

In any case, to get a predefined idea, we can always go to what are known as “Mendel’s Laws”, a scientific study that was carried out by Gregor Mendel in the 19th century and that was a revolution in the field of biology.

This Augustinian monk of Austrian origin carried out a series of investigations using only a pair of peas with the sole objective of knowing how genes behaved in future generations.  And he was so successful that from then on he is known worldwide as the “father of modern genetics.”

Thanks to genetics we can predict the baby’s eye and hair color

Thanks to these laws, we can get a slight idea of what our children’s eye color will be like. And for this we will put a very clear example. Dark eye colors are always present in the ”dominant genes” (A) while other lighter shades are called ”recessive genes”(a).

Let us therefore imagine that a father has black eyes (A) while the mother has blue eyes. From here on, all the children will come out with the eyes of their father or mother (AA)  but as the dominant one is the color black, since surely the future offspring will have a better chance of having dark eyes.

However, there is also the possibility that both parents have light eye colors (a) and therefore it is more likely that the children come out with light eyes in green or blue tones (AA).

The color of the eyes and hair will not be well defined until five months

As you may have seen, genetics offers us a wide range of possibilities that is sometimes somewhat complex to understand, especially if we are not gurus on the subject. Although it can give us a certain preconceived idea of what our children’s eye and hair color will be like in the future.

But as we explained at the beginning of the article, this will be an aspect that will be defined little by little. It should be remembered that melanin is a pigment that is responsible for giving the baby’s iris, skin and hair color.

As many of you know, it is a substance that is found in cells. And since these are not fully developed at birth, it is completely normal for the color to change gradually.

Therefore, we will have to wait at least five months to know more for sure what the exact color of the eyes and hair of our children will be. During this time, breast milk has no influence at all, a myth that is widespread in society but lacks solid scientific validity.

By way of conclusion, we can only say that genetics are completely fickle. All the theories that we have explained here have fallen apart at times. In fact, a server like me has blue eyes and no one in my family does.

And from then on, three cousins after me have also come into the world with light blue irises. Therefore, it is best not to eat too much coconut with this theme and simply let “nature” take its course.
