To know first how much weight we should lose, the most advisable thing is to use a BMI calculator to find out what our Body Mass Index is according to our weight and height. After this information, it is convenient to know what is the ideal weight in men (if you are a man), or the ideal weight in women (if you are a woman).

To help you know a little more about them, we analyzed the different types of most common diets and, above all, what side effects their regular monitoring tends to produce.

The main types of weight loss diets most common

Low calorie diets

They are low-calorie diets, which generally propose eating less than 1000 calories each day. It is true that, to lose weight, it is advisable to reduce calories, but we must always keep to a healthy minimum (which is around 1,500-1,700 calories).

What are its main side effects? General malaise and dizziness, hair loss, depression, insomnia, amenorrhea (in the case of women) and intolerance to cold.

High protein or high protein diets

They are diets high in protein and low in carbohydrates. They propose the possibility of eating only foods rich in protein, whatever the person wants. A clear example is the Dukan diet or the Atkins diet, so fashionable in recent times, but equally so criticized by many leading dietitians and nutritionists.

Its main side effects range from fluid loss to high levels of cholesterol, triglycerides and uric acid. On the other hand, they can also cause constipation, bone decalcification, nausea, dizziness and halitosis. And what is even more serious: kidney damage.

Diets based on a single food

They are effective for losing weight, since when consuming a single food (for example, only recipes for artichoke, pineapple or apple) it is normal that many calories are not consumed, but there are obvious nutritional deficiencies. In addition, there is a practically immediate rebound effect.

Among the side effects produced by following this type of diet we can find digestive and stomach disorders, mental and emotional disorders and they are also diets that tend to break the normal eating rhythm.

Dissociated diets

They are diets that defend how food is eaten, not how much or what is eaten. Therefore, it analyzes the combinations of foods, defending that a bad combination is the main culprit of overweight and obesity.
