The oil test is another of the home tests to know if you are pregnant. Find out what you need to do it at home and how it works, it is really simple.
There is no doubt that the most effective way to know if a woman is pregnant or not is by carrying out the urine test, which consists of depositing a little of the first morning urine in a small utensil consisting of a strip. Reactive absorbent, capable of detecting the presence of the hormone chorionic gonadotropin (HGC), also known as the pregnancy hormone.
But for this urine test to show a positive result and therefore it to be effective, it is necessary that the blood has sufficient levels of the hormone HGC, so that a level of this hormone below 25-50 mlU / mL will tend to be negative.
For this reason, the most appropriate thing is not to rush when performing the test, and to wait a few more days so that in the case of a real pregnancy it does not give a false negative result.
There is also a blood test that basically consists of measuring the level of the hormone HGC directly in the blood, which becomes an even more reliable test than the urine test because it is capable of detecting whether or not the woman is pregnant between 6 to 8 days after conception.
While for the urine test it is necessary to wait at least 2 weeks, although today it is possible to find much more sensitive urine tests in pharmacies capable of detecting pregnancy just 6 days after conception.
But when urine or blood tests did not exist, our mothers and grandmothers used what today are still known as home pregnancy tests, basically consisting of home remedies that can be useful in this regard.
Although we must make it clear from the first moment that these home tests are not as reliable as for example the different pregnancy tests that you can find in pharmacies, with a reliability of almost 99%.
One of the most popular or known is the so-called oil test, which has passed from generation to generation from grandmothers to mothers and later to their own granddaughters.
What is the oil test and what does it consist of?
It is one of the most classic and traditional tests, which mothers used to use to find out whether or not they were pregnant.
In fact, many consider it to be one of the oldest and most widely used tests, and many even consider it a reliable home pregnancy test, although we obviously reserve this opinion because its reliability has not been scientifically proven. However, some women who have used it claim that its reliability is between 70 to 80%.
How to do the pregnancy test with oil?
To do it you need a clean crystal glass, a little olive oil and your own urine (it is better that it be the first one you do in the morning). You should urinate into the container, and let the sample cool for about an hour.
With the help of a dropper or a sterilized tablespoon, add two drops of olive oil to another container. In it you will add a little urine without it getting to take in the oil.
Wait a few more hours: if you see that the rust and oil have joined, it means that. You are pregnant. But if they have stayed still and have not touched, it would mean that you are not pregnant.
Warning: You must bear in mind that this pregnancy test is far from reliable, so it cannot serve as a positive or negative diagnosis at all. We recommend that you go to your doctor or undergo a medical test (for example, a blood test or urine test) to confirm whether or not you are pregnant.
