Sunscreen and sunscreen: main differences. Which to choose?

Learn about the differences between sunscreen and sunscreen, two products whose use is essential in summer when it comes to protecting our skin from the negative effects of the sun.

Now that we are in the middle of summer and that many of our readers are beginning to enjoy their long-awaited summer vacations, it is true that whenever we have the opportunity we never tire of repeating the importance of caring for and protecting your skin from the very beginning. that we go out and spend a lot of time in the sun (even if we don’t go to the beach or the pool and don’t sunbathe).

In relation to how to protect the skin when sunbathing, it is essential to use a suitable photo protector or sunscreen according to our skin type, since if, for example, we have very light skin, which burns easily and never tans, it is It is necessary to use a protection index greater than 50.

We should also apply sunscreen cream properly, before leaving the house or starting to sunbathe, and renew it every two hours or every time we get out of the water. And not only use a photoprotection cream, but also avoid the most dangerous hours of the day (between 12 and 4 p.m.).

What is sunscreen?

Basically we could also call sunscreen sunscreen, and then it is quite likely that you already know what we are referring to when we talk about sunscreen.

Indeed, sunscreen is a product that contains protection through chemical formulas, so that it is capable of reducing the amount of sunlight that penetrates our skin.

To put it another way, it is a product capable of absorbing ultraviolet radiation.

It is especially useful when we want to take advantage of ultraviolet rays, allowing us to achieve a greater tanning effect on the skin, although it protects it from sunburn.

What is sunscreen?

While, the one known as sunscreen, consists of a physical product that by completely reflecting the sun’s rays (both UVA and UVB), practically completely prevents the radiation from reaching or reaching the skin.

Therefore, what is achieved with sunscreen is that the skin does not come into direct contact with UV rays, while it more directly prevents burns caused by the sun, compared to sunscreen.

Differences between sunscreen and sunscreen

  • Solar filter: it is a product made from different chemical formulas, which serve to absorb ultraviolet radiation. They tend to reduce the amount of ultraviolet rays that penetrate our skin.
  • Sunscreen: Unlike sunscreen, this is a non-chemical product. It helps prevent the sun from affecting our skin in a negative way, by blocking its effects, and it has a slightly thicker consistency.

Taking into account their main differences, it is obvious that opting for one or the other will depend on our tastes or needs, especially if we already have a specific brand that we usually use and it has been good for us so far.

As we can see, the important – and fundamental – thing is to always use sunscreen before exposing ourselves to the sun. And renew it from time to time, or every time we get out of the water.

In any case, both products should be applied to the skin 30 minutes before sun exposure.  And not only that, but they must also be conveniently reapplied if we remain in the water for a long time.

So which of the two to choose?

As we have seen, sunscreen (or sunscreen) is not the same as sunscreen, which acts more directly on the skin.

If we take into account, for example, that sunscreen is capable of preventing the sun’s rays from penetrating the skin, its use is recommended when precisely we do not want to tan, or we want to protect the skin from a day at the beach or pool. It is the most recommended option by most dermatologists, especially for people who have fair skin, or have previously suffered from some type of skin cancer.

While sunscreen is more suitable for those who want to get a little tan, but at the same time protect their skin from the sun’s harmful rays.
