If there is a characteristic food of autumn, and more specifically of a festival as popular and traditional in the United States as Halloween (which has reached our country, even establishing itself as its own), that is the pumpkin. That delicious berry with a hard shell, with a chestnut or melon flavor and belonging to the cucurbitaceae family. It is, in fact, a very broad family in which there is a wide variety of different squashes: the sweet Hokkaido squash, the bonetera squash and the squash itself (that is, the one usually consumed in many houses each year) day.

Did you know that pumpkin seeds dating back to 5,000 years before Christ were found in Mexico? There is evidence that, in the first century of our era, Marcial (a Roman poet) gave a wonderful banquet based on pumpkins of all kinds, which was very popular because each dish had a different flavor. In fact, with these seeds you can make two natural recipes that are ideal for taking care of your health: pumpkin seed milk and pumpkin seed oil (ideal, for example, for natural prostate care).

With the pumpkin pulp it is possible to make a delicious homemade jam. For this it is extremely appropriate to always choose more scented varieties. For example, it is advisable to opt for the variety that has a terracotta red color, since it will be a good indicator of its aroma and perfume.

Pumpkin jam recipe

Ingredients you need:

  • 1kg pumpkin
  • 450 gr. of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Thickener

Pumpkin jam preparation:

First, wash the pumpkin well, and peel it. Remove its seeds and cut it into small pieces. Put the pumpkin pieces in a large bowl or bowl, but alternating the pieces with the sugar (this way you will get it to sweeten better).

Cut the lemon in half and squeeze it to obtain its juice. Add a tablespoon of lemon juice to the previous bowl, cover and leave to macerate for 15 hours.

After this time, put the pumpkin and sugar mixture in a saucepan for preserves or jams and add the thickener. Cook until it reaches a boil, cooking until it reaches the preferred consistency.

Finally put the pumpkin jam in sterilized jars, cover and turn them over to make a vacuum.

Pumpkin and apple jam recipe

Ingredients you need:

  • 725 grams pumpkin
  • 725 grams of apples
  • 1kg of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Water

Preparation of pumpkin and apple jam:

Wash the pumpkin and apples and peel them well. Then chop them up.

Put the pieces of pumpkin and apple in a saucepan, cover with water and cook until the pumpkin softens a bit. Drain and mash well.

Then put the pumpkin and apple puree in a jam pot. Add the freshly squeezed lemon juice, thickener and sugar, cooking until it comes to a boil.

Once you get the consistency you want, foam at the end of cooking and put in jars. To finish, cover and turn them over for a few minutes to make the vacuum.

Pumpkin, orange and carrot jam recipe

Ingredients you need:

  • 550 gr. pumpkin
  • 4 oranges
  • 4 carrots
  • 750 grams of sugar
  • Thickener

Preparation of pumpkin, orange and carrot jam:

Wash oranges, carrots and pumpkin. Cut the oranges without peeling them into small pieces. Peel the carrots and cut them into slices. Now peel the pumpkin, remove the seeds and cut it into pieces.

Put all the ingredients in a large bowl or bowl. Add the sugar and leave to macerate for 1 full day (24 hours).

Then put the preparation in a saucepan for jams, add the thickener and bring to the boil, stirring little by little and from time to time.

When the jam acquires the desired consistency at the end of cooking foam and put in jars.  Then carefully flip them over to make a vacuum.
