Ovusitol for pregnancy: how to take it and side effects

Ovusitol is a food supplement of inositol, folic acid and vitamin D, which regulates menstrual cycles. When to take it and what side effects does it have?

Having an irregular period can greatly complicate a woman’s chances of becoming pregnant, as it tends to be much more difficult to plan when ovulation will occur, so the chances of getting pregnant are greatly reduced. For these cases we find Ovusitol.

It is, as we will see, an extremely popular food supplement among couples who have problems getting pregnant, especially due to irregular cycles.

What is Ovusitol? What is it for?

I is a supplement or nutritional supplement containing inositol, folic acid and vitamin D. While inositol is an organic compound belonging to the family of polyalcohols, which is part of the B vitamins and has a very positive influence on fertility, folic acid is another vitamin of the B complex essential for pregnancy.

Therefore, Ovusitol is a very useful supplement to improve a woman’s fertility and thus increase the chances of pregnancy, thanks to the fact that it contains two beneficial compounds in this sense, since inositol is capable of improving the function and quality of the ovaries, in addition to regulating the menstrual cycle (for this reason it is very useful in case the woman has an irregular menstrual cycle).

The folic acid is an equally essential vitamin, since it is a nutrient that helps prepare the woman’s body for pregnancy, preventing deformations in the placenta that can end in abortion, and also during pregnancy prevents the baby anencephaly or spina bifida, and in the mother it reduces the risk of suffering eclampsia.

When to take Ovusitol and how to do it? Recommended dose

Although there are many causes that can directly influence the chances of getting pregnant, one of them is related to the possible existence of irregular cycles, due to hormonal or metabolic alterations. In these cases, taking ovusitol can be very interesting, since it helps regulate menstrual cycles, improves fertility and therefore offers the possibility of better planning the pregnancy (maximizing the chances of conception).

However, before starting to take Ovusitol on your own, it is best to consult your gynecologist first, especially if you have studied or are studying the possible causes that the pregnancy has not yet occurred.

If it advises you to take this food supplement, and if we stick to what is specified in the package insert, it is advisable to take one sachet of Ovusitol per day, which contains 400 mg. of folic acid, 4 gr. of myo-inositol and 400 IU of vitamin D.

There is a recommended increase in the dose, increasing up to two sachets of Ovusitol per day. It is in the case of polycystic ovary syndrome, since this supplement has proven to be effective in regulating menstrual cycles.

Ovusitol side effects

Although it is a food supplement, like any supplement its consumption is not without risks. Specifically,  Ovusitol is considered a supplement whose adverse and / or secondary effects are practically negligible , but in some women it can cause increased cervical mucus, much shorter menstrual cycles and mild abdominal pain (especially during menstrual cycles).

Therefore, before the appearance of any discomfort or symptoms after starting to take this supplement, it is advisable to consult your gynecologist.

Should I stop taking Ovusitol after getting pregnant?

Obviously, since the main objective of Ovusitol is to regulate menstrual cycles and improve fertility (a benefit that tends to occur a few months after starting this supplement), once the pregnancy is confirmed, it should be stopped taking it.
