Excess sebum tends to in turn produce oily hair. To treat it naturally, we discover some useful home remedies against oily hair.

The oily hair is unique addition to the discomfort that although today we washed the next day looks like, fat, stuck, heavy with appearance that has not been washed.

Hair becomes oily when there is excess sebum production from the sebaceous glands of the scalp. It is normal to have a little oil on the scalp as it is part of the normal process of sebum production.

This sebum is responsible for keeping hair healthy as well as protecting it. But excess sebum can cause other problems such as seborrhea or seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff, itching, inflammation of the scalp.

The causes of this excessive fat production can be several:

  • Unbalanced diet.
  • Hormonal disorders.
  • Stress, anxiety, tiredness.
  • Some medications (antibiotics, contraceptives, diuretics.
  • Frequent hair washing.
  • Not rinsing your hair well, leaving residues of products that we use for hair such as foams, hair gels, lacquers.
  • The use of aggressive shampoos.
  • Wash hair with very hot water.

When we notice that the problem persists, the fat in the hair is a lot and we also present some of the symptoms that we have previously indicated, we must go to the dermatologist so that they do the appropriate review and prescribe the treatment for our case.

Some natural preparations can help us improve and reduce excess oil on the scalp, below we present a series of natural remedies that we can prepare at home.

4 natural remedies for oily hair

Oatmeal dry shampoo for oily hair

Dry cleaning is an effective treatment to reduce excess oil in the hair and scalp.

To prepare this dry shampoo we only need a tablespoon of ground oatmeal that we will spread all over the scalp.

Gently massage the scalp and leave for 10 minutes. Next, we gently brush the hair and shake the hair to remove the remains of oatmeal. We can use this dry shampoo alternating with wet washes.

Oily hair lotion

To prepare this lotion we need the following ingredients: a tablespoon of mint leaves, a tablespoon of rosemary, a cup of apple cider vinegar and half a liter of water.

We put the water to boil, once it starts to boil add the mint, rosemary and turn off the heat. Let the infusion stand covered for 10 minutes. Strain the infusion and add the vinegar. Let it cold down.

This lotion is to be applied to the scalp, without rubbing and after having washed our hair.  We wrap the hair with a towel and leave it to act for 15 minutes.

Once the time has elapsed, remove the towel and rinse gently with plenty of warm water.

Natural remedy for oily hair from clay and apple cider vinegar

We will prepare this remedy with a tablespoon of green clay and apple cider vinegar in sufficient quantity to make a mixture.

Put these ingredients in a glass or plastic container and stir with a plastic or wooden spoon.

We spread the mixture throughout the scalp and all the hair as we usually do with hair masks. Let act for 10 minutes. Then rinse gently and abundantly with warm water.

We can apply this remedy every time we wash our hair.

Sage rinse for oily hair

This sage rinse is to lighten our hair after washing. We will prepare this rinse with an infusion of sage.

To prepare the sage infusion we need two teaspoons of sage and half a liter of mineral water. We put the water to boil and once it is boiling we add the sage.

Turn off the heat, cover the infusion and let it rest for 10 minutes. Strain the infusion and let cool.

We will use this infusion as a rinse in the last rinse after washing our hair. We can apply this sage rinse every time we wash our hair.
