As we have briefly commented at the beginning of this article, what is known as Low Carb is a nutritional current that consists of lowering or reducing carbohydrates in the usual diet.
For this reason, a low carb diet (or in other words, a low carbohydrate diet) is mainly characterized by reducing the consumption of foods rich in carbohydrates, and increasing the consumption of foods rich in carbohydrates. Proteins (hyperprotein diet) to take advantage of its satiating effect.
Foods such as rice, potatoes or pasta are discarded, while the consumption of carbohydrates is reduced exclusively to the consumption of fruits and vegetables.
The Goal of a Low Carb Diet
The Low Carb diet is therefore based on causing weight loss due to its inducing effects of ketosis, since this occurs when, not being able to obtain energy from carbohydrates, the body tries to obtain it by burning fat reserves, reducing body fat and appetite.
Of course, it should be taken into account that it is not at all advisable to eliminate carbohydrates from our diet, much less eliminate legumes, fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
