Invisible orthodontics (lingual or envisaging) offers interesting advantages over traditional orthodontics with metal brackets. Are you planning to put them on? Discover their differences Some time ago we were able to learn some tips and tricks to be able to enjoy, in a simple way, healthy teeth, an issue that – incidentally, gave us the possibility of having healthy teeth.
In this sense, and more specifically within the different problems that can affect oral health, not only from an aesthetic point of view, cavities have become the most common.
Although it is also common to meet people who, for different reasons (mainly due to not having enough space), their teeth have not grown in a linear way, showing an appearance that aesthetically speaking can be annoying, especially for their own self-esteem.
Today there are various treatments that can help solve the problem in a short time, and above all in the simplest and fastest way possible.
We know, for example, of the existence of the already classic brackets, and that they precisely help to correctly align the patient’s teeth.
But there is also a recent treatment that can help many patients not feel bad about using this type of orthodontics, since sometimes the braces can be annoying or be fully visible.
It is known as invisible orthodontics, a novel technology that allows the teeth of adults to be aligned without the need for braces, with a very special feature: it is a system that cannot be seen, does not affect speech, and does not interfere with speech. Habitual rhythm of life of the patient.
To be able to use it, a computerized study with Stereo lithography is first carried out, which allows a virtual model to be obtained on the computer, so that the patient can know the evolution and result of the treatment, as well as the approximate duration of the treatment.
What is invisible orthodontics? What does it consist of?
Although it is true that orthodontics is a dental treatment that has existed for some decades now, and that it helps to correct the different defects and irregularities in the position of the teeth, in recent years different types of orthodontics specially designed for those who wish to continue the treatment without its elements being so visible.
With this type of treatment, the uncomfortable and annoying braces of classic orthodontics were left behind, those metal pieces that consisted of a metal ring, wires and elastics that helped push the teeth progressively towards the position they should occupy, taking them in a correct thrust direction.
However, they are still used today, especially after the arrival of so-called self – ligating brackets, which avoid the need to use elastics to adjust the appliance, allowing the teeth to move and do not rub against the ring.
In the particular case of what is known as invisible orthodontics, it consists of a much more aesthetic dental treatment than traditional aluminum brackets and rings, since it tends not to be so visible from the outside, especially when the person who uses them smiles or speaks. .
Differences with Envisaging and main advantages
There are basically two types of invisible orthodontics. On the one hand we find what is known as lingual orthodontics, quite similar to conventional orthodontics, with the difference that the brackets are placed on the back of the teeth and tend to be less thick. This allows that they cannot be appreciated from the outside.
They have an adaptation period that usually ranges from 15 to 20 days, and although it is not removable, it prevents damage to the enamel on the front of the teeth that used to occur with aluminum brackets (stains and decalcification).
And the orthodontics known as Envisaging, which consists of the manufacture, to measure, of a transparent splint with plastic materials inside which different accessories are placed in order to control the displacement of the teeth towards the correct position that is desired. Depending on what is indicated by the 3D computer program by means of which the evolution of the correction is followed, they are changed every two weeks.
Therefore, it is evident that invisible orthodontics offers interesting advantages compared to the use of traditional orthodontics:
- It is much more aesthetic, since the device is not so visible, especially if the person speaks smiles or opens their mouth.
- Its use is simpler, thanks to the use of a computer program that allows to follow the evolution of the treatment. I am even helping the patient himself to remove and place his braces.
However, despite its advantages, it is also a somewhat more expensive type of treatment. For example, Envisaging invisible orthodontic treatment has a cost that ranges between 4,000 to 5,000 euros, while treatment with aluminum brackets ranges around 2,500 – 3,000 euros approximately.
