How to relieve and remove mucus

Snot and mucus can be very bothersome. Discover useful tips to relieve and eliminate mucus easily, and in a completely natural way.

Have you ever wondered why boogers appear? The truth is that it is an interesting question, to say the least, since contrary to what we mistakenly tend to think, the truth is that snot is always with us, and not only in the area of the nose: we also have snot in the stomach, in the lungs, in the colon… and if you are a woman, also in the cervix. The only thing that happens is that in the face of certain disorders, diseases or health problems, the body tends to produce them in excess.

This is what happens, for example, when we have a cold, a common cold or flu. Or even when we have an allergy and our body has reacted to the element that causes it (be it dust, animals like cats…). Mucus is a defense mechanism , more than an ‘enemy’ we should really begin to consider it as a friend that helps us protect ourselves and expel viruses and bacteria. But there is no doubt that even if this is the case, when our body produces them in excess (especially in the nose), they can become a real headache, quite annoying and uncomfortable.

In these cases it is always useful to have a few handkerchiefs on hand -there is no room for doubt-, and in turn some simple tips and guidelines that help us when it comes to alleviating them, on the one hand, and eliminating them on the other.

How to relieve mucus:

From a natural point of view, in what is known as natural medicine (which passed from generation to generation, and which we can discover within what are known as home remedies), we can find different remedies that will be of great help when it comes to relieving the mucus.

First of all, the fundamental thing is to treat the root problem from the first moment you notice that the mucus is beginning to bother you, since otherwise the mucous membranes tend to be larger, the mucus tends to accumulate in excess and it is possible that they harden. If this happens, other disorders and more serious diseases may appear, such as sinusitis.

To prevent this from happening, you can follow the advice that we propose below:

  • Eucalyptus vapors: it is as simple as boiling one or two cups of water in a saucepan, and when the water comes to a boil, add a few drops of eucalyptus oil. Then you must stand in front of the saucepan, being careful not to burn yourself, covering your head with a towel and inhaling the vapors. If you do it little by little and for several days, you will soon see how that annoying mucus gradually disappears.
  • Baking soda, water and salt: this is a natural remedy as classic as it is simple. It consists of preparing a mixture of water, baking soda and salt, placing it in a dropper and applying it to the nose.
  • Homemade syrup: Homemade syrup based on onion and honey helps not only in relieving mucus, but is even ideal to combat and improve cough. Its preparation is very simple, since you only have to cut a large onion into small pieces and place them in a 250-gram glass jar, to which you will then add two tablespoons of honey. Mix well and leave to macerate for 10 hours. Ready! You can take spoonful little by little.
  • To relieve snot in the chest : if in addition to snot in the nose you feel it in the chest, a useful and natural way to relieve it is by making an infusion of ginger and cardamom.

These simple, natural tips are especially helpful when it comes to relieving mucus.  However, remember that in case of excessive mucus, that prevents you from breathing or that lasts too long, it is always best to go to the doctor before and self-medicate.
