Knowing how to prepare the skin before shaving is essential when preparing the facial skin so that shaving does not become such a traumatic action. We explain some useful tips.
Although shaving is something that many men do every day, and has become a daily practice for many years, did you know that it is a very traumatic action for your skin? The reason is very simple: shaving removes the hydrolipidic film that protects the surface of our skin, while eroding the upper layers. For this reason, the horny layer dries out, since the skin resists the passage of the shaving blade, creating very small wounds that are not visible to the naked eye.
For all these reasons, it is normal for different annoying and uncomfortable sensations to appear on the skin of the face after shaving, such as tightness and burning, as a result of the epidermis becoming inflamed and the skin reddening (what is medically known as skin erosion). In more serious and serious cases, what is known as folliculitis can appear, which is characterized by the appearance of small pimples similar to acne at the base of the hair.
If we want to avoid many of these undesirable consequences, and above all, take care of our skin from the beginning of shaving, the most appropriate thing to do is to know how to prepare the skin properly and correctly.
Tips to prepare the skin before shaving
Choose the most suitable time of day
Have you ever considered that there may be a much more appropriate time of day to shave? Believe it or not, it is: the muscles of the face are more relaxed in the morning, so this is the best time of day for shaving, than during the rest of the day.
On the other hand, it is not advisable to shave after eating, since with digestion our capillaries contain a greater flow of blood, making it easier to cut ourselves and bleed.
Exfoliate your skin
It is an option as ideal as it is recommended, since if you exfoliate the skin of your face before shaving you will be able to eliminate the different dead cells of the skin of the face, with which you will enjoy a much cleaner skin.
Massage your face
To make the hair stand up, and to make shaving much more comfortable and easy, it is recommended to massage the beard with the help of your fingers, making circular movements for a few minutes.
Moisten your facial skin with hot water
This is without a doubt one of the basic tips that can be given when preparing the skin before shaving. It consists of moistening your beard with hot water, but avoiding the full bath. In this way you will get the hair of the beard to moisten and soften, without the skin of the face also doing so (since otherwise, and the skin also softens excessively, then it would hurt much more when shaving).
Use almond oil
You can apply it after moistening and softening the skin on your face with hot water. Almond oil is ideal because it helps soften the skin, so that it will not be so tight and you will get a more slippery skin, in this way the razor blade will pass without pulling through the skin.
What if I have sensitive skin?
In this case, many dermatologists advise using a special cream for sensitive skin at least 14 hours before shaving, which helps to soften the dermis with the aim of making shaving less traumatic.
