Horsetail tea is a wonderful medicinal drink with incredible natural properties. Find out how to prepare it at home and when it is not advisable to take it.

We have heard a lot about the properties of natural medicine, either from our grandmothers or from some other reference. However, little we really know about some plants and their extraordinary benefits.

The horsetail is a plant with powerful health benefits of human beings so we review in this paper some of them and we’ll tell you how to prepare a magnificent tea.

The first thing you need to know is that horsetail has a very high mineral value, so its consumption would mean “criminalize” your body, which translates into health for your vital organs and bones.

It is also known that this mythical plant is capable of helping the body eliminate excess fluids that remain in it, so if you need a natural diuretic, this is one of the best options on the market.

There are those who use horsetail as an ally to lose weight but with this we have to be careful because first, it is not a substitute for food under any circumstances, besides that it does not burn fat but prevents fluid retention.

Horsetail is attributed great benefits to the digestive system, nail and hair growth, as well as its ability to help stop bleeding, regenerate tendons and accelerate wound healing.

The wonderful benefits of horsetail tea

Consumed without excesses, and as long as there is no pathology or circumstance that contraindicates it, the truth is that horsetail tea is a natural drink with interesting benefits for our health.

And what are those properties or qualities? We discover them below:

  • Diuretic qualities: It helps to eliminate excess fluids, so it is very useful in case of fluid retention. Therefore, it also helps to eliminate toxins accumulated in our body.
  • Prevention of premature aging:  Horsetail is rich in natural antioxidants, which fight against the negative action of free radicals (main “culprits”, by the way, of the premature aging of our cells). So, horsetail tea is a natural ally in this regard.
  • Useful against cellulite:  By helping we eliminate toxins and liquids, and by promoting the natural elimination of fat, it is a wonderful option when it comes to improving the unsightly appearance of cellulite.
  • Good for nails:  In case of brittle nails, which break easily, horsetail tea also brings useful benefits. But on this occasion, to enjoy this benefit, it is not necessary to take it but to immerse the nails in the cold infusion for 15 minutes, 3 times a week.

How to make horsetail tea:

As we already mentioned, horsetail tea can help you in a host of things thanks to its properties, but it is not always taken in the same way, so we want to explain what you should do.

The basic recipe consists of boiling the leaves of the plant for 5 minutes, letting it rest for another 5 and taking it three times a day for a month and a half if we want to treat fluid retention or improve digestive processes.

If your intention is to use it as a slimming agent, you must place two tablespoons of the plant in a liter of water that you will bring to a boil. You will have to drink the resulting solution for 15 days and it will be the replacement for the water that you commonly drink before or after meals.

It should be noted that you must interrupt consumption for 15 days and repeat the initial operation so that your body does not receive a high impact from this natural medicine and can gradually adapt to its properties.

Now, if you are going to use the horsetail plant to eliminate kidney stones, you must boil the leaves of the product and that will be all the water you consume for 15 days. It is recommended that it be at least one liter daily.

After the first 15 days, you must eliminate the consumption for another 15 and repeat it again if you have not had the expected results. In any case, consult a specialist if it is necessary to continue with the intake of the liquid.

Other ways to enjoy its properties

Although consuming horsetail leaf in infusions is the most common way to take it, there are other ways in which you can take advantage of its properties.

Its mineral content can be used as a foot bath, which will make you feel revitalized. To do this, add the horsetail leaves in a container with cold water, let it marinate for at least 13 hours and use it hot. You can dip your feet in the preparation and get ready to receive its properties.

There are also pills, creams, gels or shampoos that contain horsetail as an ingredient, although of course, in these preparations the plant is treated and may lose its natural properties a bit.

Horsetail tea contraindications, when is it not appropriate to take it?

Despite the fact that horsetail is a natural product, its excessive or excessive use will not make you immune to certain collateral effects of which you must take care and make a rational use of it.

If we use it for six weeks in a row, perhaps our body rejects it and we do not get all its nutrients from it, so you should consult a specialist whenever you decide to take it.

If we are taking medications such as aspirin or some anti-inflammatory it is recommended that you do not use it, as well as if you suffer from gastric irritability or consume too much alcohol.
