Who has not had puffy eyes at some time? It is probably one of the most common and common eye problems, which tend to arise for many different reasons. The most frequent?  Tiredness and lack of sleep, fluid retention that occurs especially under the eyes, age, stress and anxiety, and certain diseases (mainly not only eye diseases themselves, but liver diseases, allergies and Cohn’s disease).

Basically we could define puffy eyes as those that are larger than usual. These are reddened, dilated and tired, they appear swollen and bulging. In addition, they can be accompanied by other common problems such as dark circles.

As we can see, all these are symptoms that appear especially when the tissues that surround the eyes tend to retain fluids. The result is more than evident: the eyes become tired, giving our face an exhausted, unattractive and very unhealthy appearance.

Useful natural remedies to reduce eye puffiness

From a natural point of view it is possible to reduce the puffiness present in the eyes and all those related discomforts, such as the accumulation of liquids in the area under the eyes, redness and excessive dilation, and above all the tired appearance and exhausted so obvious. The following remedies especially stand out:

  • Green tea bags: cold green tea bags are a very popular and effective traditional remedy when it comes to reducing puffiness under the eyes, because it acts as a wonderful natural anti-inflammatory. In addition, it acts as a decongestant. To prepare it you just have to make a green tea with two bags, reserving them later and leaving them in the fridge. Once cool, apply it to the eye area, leaving it to act for 30 minutes.
  • Cold cucumber strips: surely you know that, along with green tea bags, cold cucumber slices are also a useful folk remedy for reducing eye inflammation, as they also act as an anti-inflammatory and also as a good refresher. To prepare it, you just have to wash the cucumber well and cut some slices. Apply them over your eyes, leaving them to act for at least 15 minutes.
  • Cotton balls soaked in milk: it is a less well-known remedy than the previous two but just as effective, since milk is respectful of how delicate your eyes are while the cold helps to deflate the area. Just soak two cotton balls in cold whole milk and apply to the eye area.
  • Metal spoons: coffee spoons are useful for reducing eye inflammation because the low temperature at which they are usually found helps to contract blood vessels and reduce swelling. To make the teaspoons even colder, it is recommended to soak them in very cold water with ice for a few minutes, and then put them over your eyes with the concave side facing the skin. Just when they start to heat up, change them for cold ones, until you let them act for 30 minutes.

Other natural tips just as effective

In addition to the natural remedies that we have talked about in the previous lines, there are also other useful tips that we could follow to make the swelling disappear and the eyes deflate:

  • White potato slices: white potato, when applied to the eyes, helps reduce inflammation in the area and deflate them. For this remedy to be more effective, the potato must be cold. To achieve this, a suitable option is to leave a white potato in the fridge until it cools. Then wash it well, peel it and cut some slices, then place them over your eyes. Let act 30 minutes.
  • Cotton balls soaked in chamomile infusion: in addition to green tea bags, chamomile infusion is another ideal natural option against puffy eyes, thanks to the fact that it is a medicinal plant with anti-inflammatory and decongestant action. To make the infusion you must heat the equivalent of a cup of water in a saucepan and bring to a boil, then pour the hot water over a teaspoon of chamomile, cover and let stand for 5 minutes. Finally reserve in the fridge until cool. At the time of applying it to your eyes, soak the cotton balls and apply, leaving it to act for 30 minutes.
