How long should I breastfeed my baby?

Recommended duration of breastfeeding. If you are a newcomer, you may be wondering how long it is advisable to continue breastfeeding. If so, in this article we answer this question.

Did you know that women have the ability to breastfeed their children for as long as is necessary and essential? Thus, whenever milk is expressed from the breasts, a greater quantity of milk will be produced. What’s more, menopause is not an obstacle. Rather, you actually tend to produce milk from puberty to the time of death.

However, despite the absence of a physical limit on the age of the breastfed child, it is common for many moms, especially new ones, to wonder how long they should breastfeed. Obviously, it is not the same as wondering how long it is possible to breastfeed, since the reality is that, for a certain time, breast milk should become the only food for the baby.

The World Health Organization (WHO) indicates that breastfeeding is the ideal way to provide babies and young children with all the nutrients they need so much for proper and healthy growth and development.

In this way, only thereafter should age-appropriate and safe foods be introduced, such as the first solid foods in the form of fruit compotes and cereal porridges. In addition, it advises the “maintenance of breastfeeding up to 2 years or more.”

They recommend “exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of the child’s life and continuing to breastfeed along with appropriate complementary foods until two years of age or older.”

Taking into account the main medical recommendations it  is essential to breastfeed the baby during the first six months of the child’s life, at least, and continue for as long as possible (or, until you want both the mother and the baby himself).

Remember this maxim: no matter how short it may be, any period during which breastfeeding is maintained will be better for the health and development of your baby than having opted for artificial milk from the first moment, especially during the first weeks of the baby’s life. Newborn.
