Honey to sleep better at night

Benefits of honey to sleep better at night. And discover why honey is ideal against insomnia.

Did you know that there are two kinds of insomnia? The most common and common in many people is what is known as acute insomnia, which usually appears in a timely manner, lasts a short time (a few days or even just one night), and in most cases it is usually caused by a certain situation that worries or torments us, which causes us stress and anxiety. The other is chronic insomnia, which tends to last over time and is usually a sign that something in our body is not right.

With regard to acute insomnia, there are also other common causes, such as the consumption of exciting substances (oh, that coffee at night!), the existence of extreme temperatures such as very hot or very cold, or sleeping with a bad environment (noises, having a room that is not tidy…).

Luckily, when it comes to discovering how to combat insomnia naturally, honey can become our great ally. And, did you know that it becomes one of the most traditional remedies that our grandmothers used in the past, when there were no sleeping pills, anti-anxiety and stress pills? Today we want to recover this home remedy and remember some of its most important virtues against insomnia.

What are the benefits of honey to sleep better?

Although honey is popularly known for its nutritional richness in vitamins (A, C, D, B1, B2, B3, B5 and B6) and minerals (potassium, copper, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, calcium, sulfur, manganese, iodine and sodium), the truth is that it also provides interesting amounts of omega-3 essential fatty acids.

And, precisely, these are the main allies when it comes to helping us rest much better, since different scientific studies have found that they help reduce the feeling of tiredness and fatigue, both mental and physical.

On the other hand, honey is rich in sugars, which naturally increase insulin levels in our body and produce serotonin (yes, the hormone that improves our mood and also relaxes us).

How to take honey to fall asleep?

One of the most traditional remedies is to drink, before going to bed, a cup of hot milk with one or two teaspoons of honey. In any case, it is advisable to try to enjoy each sip and concentrate on its flavor, in this way we will be able to relax our mind and unwind.

While honey has a calming and relaxing effect, milk is rich in tryptophan, an essential amino acid that increases our serotonin and melatonin levels, slowing down brain activity.

You can also opt for a relaxing infusion sweetened with honey. Among the best plants and herbs we find chamomile, linden and lemon balm. Or you can also make a combination of all of them, but in smaller amounts.
