Cellulite can become a real aesthetic problem for many women (although many men can also suffer from it). It basically consists of the appearance of a series of bumps on the skin, with the appearance of dimples or irregular lumps, which usually appear in the thigh area.  It forms when deep fatty tissue pushes against connective tissue, creating the typical dimpling.

It is a very common problem. In fact, it is estimated that between 80 to 85 percent of women over the age of 21 have cellulite. And, although it is not as common in men, they can also suffer from it at some point in their lives. Although, it is true, it has also been surrounded by many myths.

As we mentioned at the beginning, the thighs are usually the most affected area of the body, mainly because it is the area that has the fattiest tissue. Other related risk factors also play a role, such as: family history, hormones (such as estrogens), tissue inflammation, increased fatty tissue as a result of weight gain, loss of collagen, poor circulation, poor drainage lymphatic and the years.

Although it can become a truly frustrating aesthetic problem, you can rest assured: in terms of health, having cellulite is not bad. That is, it does not pose a health risk. However, it is understandable that many women want to get rid of it. If this is your case, below we will explain some useful home remedies to eliminate cellulite, effectively, easily and simply.

Massages

A really useful and simple home remedy is massage, which can be done at home or with the help of a professional masseur. They provide an interesting amount of benefits not only for the body (physically), but also for the mind, since while they do it we can rest and relax. And, in addition, it can also help in reducing cellulite.

Why? Fundamentally because the massage helps improve lymphatic drainage, being able to stretch the skin tissue naturally. This, in turn, can help stretch out the uncomfortable and bothersome dimples typical of cellulite as well. Although in this case we could not forget about those known as  anti- cellulite massagers.

Although the creams used to perform the massage can be of some help, the main key is the massage process itself. It is not enough to apply a cream and wait for cellulite to tend to disappear on its own. On the contrary, massage is essential. And, in addition, it is necessary to repeat the process constantly to achieve -and maintain- the desired results.

Drink more water

Hydration is essential for good health. And, for example, mineral water is another interesting option that can help against cellulite.

Not only will it help you stay properly hydrated, it also helps flush out toxins that can lead to fat accumulation. And, in addition, it is useful to stimulate circulation and lymphatic flow.

Weight loss

In some people, weight loss can help reduce cellulite. But this would only be helpful when a person is overweight, as losing excess body fat can naturally help reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Of course, we must bear in mind that women who have a healthy weight (or even those who are below the recommended weight) are still at risk of developing cellulite, so, as you can imagine, excess weight is not the only directly related cause.

In any case, as long as there is excess weight, losing it is always healthy, whether or not you have cellulite. A healthy diet and physical exercise are essential for good health, and can help reduce uncomfortable dimples in the thighs.

Adequate physical exercises

As we mentioned before, there are a series of physical exercises that are especially useful for reducing cellulite. The leg and buttock exercises stand out above all, since they can help the skin around the thigh region to tighten, thus making the dimples disappear.

However, you must bear in mind that exercise is not an infallible way to reduce cellulite present on the thighs, but it does help when it comes to having stronger muscles, since the skin tightens, ultimately being useful to reduce his appearance. Take note of the most suitable exercises:

  • Squats. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, making sure your toes point forward. Now lower your buttocks as if you were sitting on a chair, making sure your knees don’t go past your toes. Squeeze a little and return back to the starting position. And repeat again.
  • Jump squats. This is a step beyond the regular squat that we have explained to you before. To do it you just have to perform a regular squat. And instead of returning to the starting position once you’ve squatted, do a little jump with your toes.
  • Step-ups. To do it you need a bench or an exercise box. Stand in front of him, step on him while you get on top, lifting your foot. Then back up in the same pattern. Repeat again.

Some Helpful Lifestyle Changes

Although there is no way to prevent the appearance of cellulite, as it is a common condition whose risk increases with age, certain lifestyles also influence it. And, while they can have an influence, avoiding them is equally useful to reduce the risk of their occurrence; or, at least, to reduce the amount of cellulite present on the thighs.

It is essential, as we have already mentioned, not only the practice of regular physical exercise. It is also useful to take care of your diet, opting for a healthy and balanced diet, away from foods rich in saturated fats and sugars. And, above all, avoid being overweight (or reduce excess weight when we are above the weight considered “normal”).

If you already have some cellulite, you can talk to your dermatologist, especially if you are interested in professional procedures and treatments helpful in reducing the appearance of cellulite. Some medical treatments, such as laser therapy, may be helpful, although they will not completely eliminate cellulite on the thighs.
