Gargle of water and salt for a sore throat

Water and salt gargles are a useful natural remedy to relieve a sore throat, as well as very easy to prepare and do. Find out how.

As we already mentioned in a previous note, in which we were precisely wondering whether to use Ibuprofen or paracetamol for a sore throat, there is no doubt that a throat infection is one of the most common causes of a sore throat. Generally, this pain is accompanied by inflammation and redness, and if it is caused by a viral infection, it also produces pus.

Regarding its causes, these can mainly be of two types: viral causes such as the flu, cold or mononucleosis, or bacterial causes, such as streptococcus, mycoplasma or hemophilic. In the first case, there is no medical treatment that helps to cure the infection, since they are only treatments that help alleviate and reduce the symptoms. However, in case the infection is bacterial, antibiotics do help to cure it.

In case of a sore throat caused by a flu, a cold, a common cold or a mononucleosis, there are certain natural remedies that help in a very positive way when it comes to alleviating the discomfort that we may feel in those moments in which we swallow a drink, the simple saliva or some food.

An example is the gargle of warm water and salt, which help relieve pain practically from the first moment we gargle. We explain how to make them.

Ingredients you need

  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 tablespoon of salt

Steps to gargle the water and salt

  1. Put the equivalent of a cup of water in a saucepan, and heat over the fire.
  2. When the water begins to heat, remove it from the heat.
  3. Put the warm water in a glass or cup and add the tablespoon of salt.
  4. Mix well.

How to Gargle with Warm Salt Water to Relieve a Sore Throat:

It is very simple: you just have to put a little warm water and salt in your mouth and gargle, trying to bring this water to the throat area but avoiding swallowing it, keeping the gargle for 15 to 20 seconds. Repeat until the water runs out. Likewise, it is advisable to repeat several times a day.
