Which are the first pregnancy symptoms? Not only do signs such as the absence of menstruation or nausea appear. We discover the earliest signs for you.

It can occur in two ways: either that the pregnancy is desired and therefore, in the event of any slightest symptom, it is suspected that conception has indeed occurred, or that the couple has not even thought about this possibility, and see with the surprise that the period does not come, that the days go by and the menstruation is delayed.

“Am I pregnant?” It is, without a doubt, one of the most common questions that practically all women have asked at some point in their lives.

An understandable question, which can even lead you to look for signs and symptoms in your body that can help you confirm your suspicions. But, are there early pregnancy symptoms that can be useful in this regard?

Which are the first pregnancy symptoms?

Amenorrhea, or absence of menstruation

Although medically it is known by the name of amenorrhea, it is basically the absence of a period. Of course, despite the fact that it is the clearest symptom that pregnancy has occurred, it does not always mean that it has actually occurred, and ultimately there is a pregnancy.

It is possible that certain hormonal problems may influence the absence of menstruation, as it can also occur when the woman loses a lot of weight quickly, due to certain imbalances.

It is also true that there are women in whom what is known as implantation bleeding  can appear, which occurs when the egg has reached the uterus and is “grabbing” on the wall of the endometrium. In these cases, when there is no – at the moment – proof of pregnancy, it is common for women to confuse it with the typical menstrual bleeding.

The key to knowing whether or not you are pregnant is with a pregnancy test or test. You can use the common urine test or the blood test that you can do in an analysis laboratory.  In the first case, it is recommended to wait at least between 1 to 2 weeks after the lack of menstruation, although today there are tests that are capable of confirming pregnancy even 1 or 2 days before the absence has occurred.

Nausea and vomiting

This has popularly been one of the symptoms most related to pregnancy. How many movies have you not seen in which the protagonist felt nauseous and / or vomited, and it was suspected that she was pregnant?

The truth is that it is an early sign of pregnancy, but there are women who do not suffer them.

It usually appears from the first days of pregnancy. Dizziness is frequent, especially in the morning, with or without nausea and vomiting. Its causes? It is suspected that it may be due to the high level of the hormone chorionic gonadotropin, which is believed to affect the vomiting center (found in the brain stem). It is also believed that it may be due to progesterone, which causes a relaxation of the muscles of the digestive tract, which causes a slower digestion.

There are some basic tips to help you reduce nausea and vomiting during pregnancy:

  • Try to eat small portions of food, frequently throughout the day.
  • Avoid going to bed right after eating, even if you are very tired.
  • Have snacks on hand, to eat some when you wake up in the morning.
  • Avoid fats and foods with very strong odors.

Excess saliva

It is a common symptom during the first weeks of pregnancy. It is common for women to notice how the mouth secretes excess saliva, which can be very annoying.

Some experts believe that it may be associated with nausea and vomiting, although other doctors do not think so.

Fortunately, it is a symptom that usually disappears as the pregnancy progresses.

Although there is no effective natural remedy, relaxation exercises and chewing menthol gum can help.

When do you start to feel early pregnancy symptoms?

We must bear in mind that each body is different, so there are women who tend to feel early pregnancy symptoms earlier or later than usual. Or it may even be the case that you never notice them.

However, if they appear, the most common is that most of the early symptoms begin to be felt around week 6 of pregnancy.

But as we indicated previously, it is possible that some of these symptoms ‘come on’ and begin to feel around week 4 or 5 of pregnancy, especially the most common ones such as breast tenderness and pain, pain in the lower abdomen and nausea. .
