If there is a medicinal plant with interesting qualities, lemon balm is precisely a medicinal herb with many medicinal properties to treat various conditions. The lemon balm, as it is also known, is a medicinal plant that belongs to the family of the “Labiate“ and its scientific name is “Melissa officinal is”.
Among its main active principles we can mention the presence of essential oils, bitter principles, flavones and resins. In addition, among its medicinal properties we can indicate that lemon balm is antispasmodic, diaphoretic, carminative, hepatoprotective, hypotensive, and tonic, antiemetic and above all relaxing.
The benefits of these medicinal properties help us to improve various symptoms associated with some conditions such as spasms of the digestive tract, flatulence, anxiety, stress, to lower blood pressure, to improve blood circulation, to lower fever in case of colds, or flu.
The parts of Melissa that are used to prepare home remedies are the aerial parts of the plant that can be dry or fresh to prepare infusions or tincture of Melissa, in both formats we can get it.
These formats can be found in herbalists, Para pharmacies, natural product stores, pharmacies or supermarkets.
In addition, its main advantage is its versatility, since we can also mix it with other medicinal plants and further increase its properties and benefits. For example, to treat digestive problems we can combine it with chamomile, meadowsweet or hops. To relax, relieve the tension that stress generates, we can combine it with lime or lavender.
In turn, with lemon balm, infusions are prepared as we have said before to calm various conditions, you can also prepare lemon balm infusion to make relaxing baths with this plant, as is the case in this post.
How to prepare the relaxing bath with Melisa:
The bath that we are going to provide below helps us to relax after finishing our day and we need to disconnect a little, relieve the tensions of the day and also help us to get a good night’s sleep.
This bath with Melisa is also recommended in case it is difficult for us to fall asleep or we are going through a streak of temporary insomnia.
To prepare this bath, it would be ideal to have a bathtub at home, if you don’t have one, you can help yourself by moistening a sponge in the infusion and applying it to all areas of the body in the shower and then drying off without putting water on top.
We will prepare the infusion with 2 bunches or handfuls of Melissa for each liter of water.
- We put the water to boil and once it starts to boil we introduce the bunches of Melissa, lower the heat and keep it boiling for 5 minutes.
- We turn off the heat, cover the infusion and leave it to rest for 10 minutes.
- We strain the infusion and put it in the bathtub.
We add warm water to make the immersion bath.
We get into the bathtub and stay in the water with the body covered by the water and enjoy this relaxing bath for 20 minutes.
If the body is not well immersed in the infusion, we can apply it over the body with the help of a sponge. Next we dry ourselves gently.
This bath is ideal to do before we go to sleep and whenever we need it to help us relax and get a good night’s sleep.
As we have said before with Melissa we can also prepare an infusion and take it combined with other relaxing plants such as linden or lavender, before going to bed.
