What is the amount of sugar that we can find in the soft drinks that we usually drink? Discover the sugar content of the most popular soft drinks.

Due to the incredible increase that occurs each year in both obesity and overweight cases, health authorities are increasingly concerned about limiting the content of certain substances, ingredients and compounds in some of the most consumed foods.

In our country, for example, a few years ago the Ministry of Health banned the sale of vending machines for industrial pastries and sugary drinks in schools and institutes, recommending that they have above all fresh fruit and healthier foods (such as sandwiches with sausages). Low in fat).

The truth is that added sugar can be found in a good number of products that we eat every day: the cereals that we have for breakfast, the juice that we drink in the middle of the morning and, of course, the piece of cake or sponge cake that we have a snack.

In the case of soft drinks, the main health authorities and health administrations in many countries have warned about the high sugar content in this type of drink. What undoubtedly favors excess weight, especially when consumption is between moderate to excessive, and is combined with little or no physical activity.

The sugar that we can find in soft drinks

Amount of sugar in a canned soda

The amount of sugar that we indicate below is for 330 milliliters of product, the equivalent of a can of soda:

  • Cola drink: 35 grams of sugar
  • Lemon soda: 42 grams of sugar
  • Isotonic drink: 26 grams of sugar

Bearing in mind that in an adult diet of 2,000 Kcal, 30 to 50 grams of sugar per day should not be exceeded (which would be equivalent to about 6 teaspoons of sugar on average), simply by taking a can of some of the indicated soft drinks previously, we would be almost exceeding this amount. And, obviously, without including other products and foods with sugar that we would consume in the rest of the day.

Amount of sugar in a small bottle

In a 600 milliliter soft drink (the usual little bottles that began to be sold just a few years ago and that we can find today in all supermarkets), the amount of sugar is:

  • Cola drink: 63 grams of sugar
  • Lemon soda 78 grams of sugar
  • Isotonic drink: 52 grams of sugar

In relation to cola, 63 grams of sugar is equivalent to having consumed more than 12 teaspoons of 5 grams of sugar each with our coffee. And you probably don’t consume this amount of sugar with your daily coffee, right?
