8 Tips to get longer and stronger eyelashes

Eyelashes, in addition to becoming a truly attractive aesthetic element of the face, also fulfill two very important functions. On the one hand, they act as natural protectors of the eyes, by preventing some small elements from falling into them, such as external impurities. In fact, thanks to their shape and location, they are especially useful for preventing the passage, not only of objects, but also of bacteria. That is, they serve in the same way that a “shield” would, for example, by preventing foreign objects or elements from damaging the eyeball.

On the other hand, they act as sensors that “warn” the eyes of the existence of potential danger when objects approach.

A beautiful line of eyelashes becomes a perfect complement to any type of look, but on many occasions, the most common is to use false eyelashes, although it is not so appropriate to do it daily. For this reason, it is best to at least try to get more natural lashes.

But having big eyelashes, as well as being beautiful, long and strong, can sometimes not be so easy, especially if you suffer from a condition known medically as hypotrichosis of the eyelashes, when they are few or too thin.

Comb your lashes

It may sound strange, but brushing your lashes daily can be a great way to make them appear longer. In addition, it helps promote their natural growth.

While it is true that there is not much science to support these claims, the truth is that many professional makeup artists, and also experts, extol the virtues of brushing the eyelashes regularly. In addition, it stands out not only for being easy to use, but also for being cheap.

Eyelash Growth Serum

A useful option when it comes to getting stronger and longer eyelashes is to opt for a  serum specially designed to naturally help in the growth of these.

These types of serums usually contain active ingredients that not only help preserve the youth of the eyelashes, but can also stimulate the roots of the eyelashes, resulting in a growth phase that is not only longer but also more complete, making them stronger.

Olive oil and lemon

Olive oil, unrefined, is especially rich in essential fatty acids, which act as emollients. In addition, they help to moisturize and soften the eyelashes, and could be useful to promote hair growth in a completely natural way. In addition, it is rich in vitamin E and natural antioxidants.

On the other hand, lemon is a wonderful source of vitamin A and C, which as some scientific studies have shown, naturally help hair growth.

To enjoy the qualities of these two ingredients, you can get the fresh peel of a lemon, put it in a glass jar that can be hermetically sealed, and add the equivalent of a cup of extra virgin olive oil. Mix it well and let it sit overnight, which will help the olive oil absorb the juice from the lemons.

To apply it, you just have to dip an eyelash brush in this wonderful mixture and comb your lashes daily.

Castor oil

Castor oil has a generally quite strong odor, which can make you tend to discard it and not use it at first. However, as many experts say, the effort is worth it, especially for the results you could get.

According to them, castor oil is a common home remedy for eyelash growth. Furthermore, these qualities can be enriched if you use rosemary, which will not only promote hair growth, but also help reverse the signs of gray hair.

And how to apply it? You can put a little castor oil and fresh rosemary in a saucepan on the fire, and heat it at a low temperature for a maximum of 10 minutes. Then let the rosemary soak in the oil for a few hours. Once cool, use a clean brow brush to apply this wonderful blend before bed.

Hydrate them with coconut oil

Virgin coconut oil, which you can find in health food stores and specialty cosmetic stores, is not only a safe natural product to use around the eyes, it also acts as a wonderful moisturizer and eyelash strengthener.

Not surprisingly, a study showed that applying coconut oil to hair before and after washing it will help hair lose protein.

To apply it you don’t need to dip the mascara wand into the bottle of coconut oil. It will be enough to take a little with the help of the tips of the fingers, rub it and apply it to the eyelashes carefully. It will provide softness and strength. And if you want to discover more, don’t miss  how to make a moisturizer with coconut oil, easily and at home.

Follow a healthy and balanced diet

Following a balanced diet rich in natural nutrients can be especially helpful in helping hair grow healthier, thicker and stronger, including eyelashes as well.

And what are the most useful or recommended foods in this regard? Basically those foods that are rich in B vitamins, iron, niacin, omega-3, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E and zinc:

  • B vitamins. Within the B complex vitamins, for example, we can find biotin, which helps hair growth by helping the body to metabolize the amino acids that we consume through food, and improves the strength and resistance of the hair. You can find it in egg yolks, yeast, whole grains, soy flour, and liver. Niacin is also another essential B vitamin, playing an important role in DNA repair in hair follicles. We find it in meat, tuna, nuts, mushrooms and eggs.
  • Iron. You may know that iron deficiency is a common cause of hair loss. Therefore, a diet rich in iron is essential not only to prevent this deficiency, but also to support healthy hair growth. The best dietary sources of iron include red and white meats, lentils, spinach, oysters, clams, and eggs.
  • Omega-3 fatty acids. We find omega-3 fatty acids in the epithelial cells that line the scalp, and they play a role in sebum production to keep hair healthy, hydrated, and shiny. Dietary sources of this healthy fat include fatty fish (especially salmon, herring, mackerel, and trout), avocado, walnuts, and seeds (flax, chia, and pumpkin).
  • Vitamin C. This is a vitamin with antioxidant qualities, which naturally helps protect our cells against damage caused by free radicals which, among other things, can not only cause premature aging of the skin, but also inhibit the growth of healthy hair. In addition, it supports the absorption of iron, helping the body in the synthesis of collagen. Dietary sources of vitamin C include oranges, lemons, kiwis, blueberries, broccoli, guava, strawberries, and sweet potatoes.
  • Vitamin A. In addition to being essential for good eye health, all cells in the human body require vitamin A to grow. Hair, in fact, especially needs this vitamin, since it is the tissue in the body that tends to grow the fastest. We can find it in spinach, pumpkin, carrots, kale, red peppers, sweet potatoes, melon, milk, eggs, yogurt and cod liver oil.
  • Vitamin D. It is also popularly known as the “sunshine vitamin”, since the body tends to produce it in the skin when it comes into direct contact with sunlight. In the case at hand, it is believed that this vitamin plays an important role in hair production, being able to help in the creation of new hair follicles. In addition to the sun, from a dietary point of view we can find it in fatty fish, cod liver oil, mushrooms and certain enriched foods.
  • Vitamin E. Like vitamin C, it is a powerful natural antioxidant that protects us from oxidative stress. We can find it in almonds, sunflower seeds, avocado, broccoli, spinach, hazelnuts and in wheat germ.
  • Zinc. It is essential for tissue growth and repair, keeping the sebaceous glands working properly. Dietary sources of zinc include fortified cereals, whole grains, oysters, meat, spinach, lentils, eggs, and pumpkin seeds.

Avoid using eyelash extensions

You may be surprised to discover this tip in an article dedicated to offering you some useful tips to show off stronger and longer eyelashes. And it is that although eyelash extensions are a simple and quick way to temporarily increase the duration of long and thick eyelashes, the truth is that the glue that is usually used in the application process can end up damaging the natural eyelashes.

Therefore, if you use them frequently, it is not uncommon for your lashes to end up becoming thinner, shorter and uneven over time.

Avoid using makeup at home

When you’re at home, for example after a tiring day or after going outside, mascara and other makeup can dry out your lashes, making them brittle.

Therefore, whenever you are at home, remove your mascara and any other makeup, to avoid damaging them. Even a small amount of mascara can damage them if you also leave it overnight, so before going to bed, it is necessary to gently clean them to remove it without hurting yourself.
