Fruit jams are an ideal dessert to accompany toast and bread for breakfast and snacks.  Discover how to make them at home with these 5 delicious recipes.

Fruit jams are a classic for breakfast, for certain pastry preparations and why not also for an unexpected touch in a dish. Although we have a wide range of options on the market, there is nothing like a good homemade jam. Whether to share with the family, to enjoy an excellent breakfast yourself or to give as a gift to friends.

They are ideal, for example, to enjoy certain seasonal fruits that can only be consumed at one time of the year, thanks to the fact that they retain their entire flavor and also some of their nutritional qualities. Although, yes, we must not forget that jams stand out for being a very energetic food due to the large amount of sugar used in their preparation, in short, the main “culprit” of their common and characteristic sweetness.

If you are precisely passionate about fruit jams, have you ever encouraged yourself to make your own at home? We reveal 5 recipes to taste some tasty homemade jams.

How to make 5 delicious fruit jams?

Homemade apricot jam

Ingredients:

  • 1kg of apricots
  • 700 grams of sugar
  • Half lemon

Preparation:

To start we are going to remove the bones from the fruit and place them (with their peel) in a bowl in which we will add the other ingredients as well. We go to sleep and let it rest for twelve hours. The next day, we take the preparation and pass it through the processor or blender until it is well crushed. In a pot, place it over low heat and stir from time to time to prevent it from sticking and burning. The cooking time is 20 minutes from the time it takes the first boil.

As simple as that, your homemade apricot jam will be ready. Then we must deal with the step of sterilization and conservation. To do this, we will place the content in clean and dry glass jars that have been previously scalded. Place the jars with the jam in a pot to boil for 20 minutes. Then we leave it in the pot until it cools, we put the labels and voila!

Homemade fig jam

Figs do not enter the rankings of many people’s favorite fruits, but that can change with this delicious homemade jam recipe that we propose. The first secret is the choice of figs, which when bought should feel soft to the touch, also having a wrinkled or cracked skin is a sign that they are at the right time to consume them.

Ingredients:

  • 1kg of figs
  • 400 grams of sugar
  • The juice of half a lemon

Preparation:

To begin the preparation, we will remove the stems and the skin (if it is difficult to remove it from some of the figs, it can be left) and cut each one into four. We put the fruits in a pot with 400 grams of sugar and the juice of a lemon, stir a little to mix everything and start cooking over medium-high heat until they come to a boil.

Then, we lower the temperature by placing it on low heat and continue cooking for another 30 minutes. Also remember in this recipe to stir little by little and help to undo the larger pieces of fruit. Finally, we reiterate the sterilization and conservation procedure that we saw in the previous recipe.

Homemade tomato jam

You will see that this jam has the advantage of being usable in all kinds of preparations and can be a very original touch in various meals. It is also simple and economical if you take advantage of the prices of the season. It is true that it is not a fruit jam in itself, but we wanted to add it this time because it is simply delicious.

Ingredients:

  • 1kg of tomatoes
  • ¼ brown sugar
  • ¼ white sugar

Preparation:

The first thing will be to peel and remove the seeds from the tomatoes until you have a kilo (you will need to buy about two kilos), then we will have to cut them into very small cubes. We pass them to the pot and add the sugar, keep in mind that the amount must correspond to that of tomato. If you have 1 kilo of cubed tomatoes, we will put ¼ of brown sugar and ¼ of white sugar. Mix the ingredients and let the sugar act for half an hour.

We add the juice of a lemon and cook it for 10 minutes over medium heat, while we remove any foam that forms on the surface with a slotted spoon. Then we are going to put the fire stronger until it boils and we continue 5 more minutes always stirring. Then you have to lower the heat and continue cooking until the jam has very little loose liquid. Let cool a little and place in the sterilized jars and do the typical procedure of boiling the jars with jam to preserve them.

On the other hand, if you are passionate about tomato jam, you can try making our red and green tomato jam at home.

Red fruit jam

This is one of my favorites, it is also very simple. You will need the same amount of fruit as sugar, place them in a pot and cook for 20 minutes over medium heat, stirring with a wooden spoon.

Then we also add a little lemon juice, and in about 15 more minutes we will have a thick consistency. The last step will be to strain the preparation to remove the seeds from the fruit, and finally we start to do the conservation procedure that we have taught you at the beginning, remember that it is very important to do it correctly to avoid contaminating the jam.

Homemade strawberry jam

Here you have another very simple and delicious recipe another classic: strawberry jam.

Ingredients:

  • Half kg. of strawberries
  • 225 grams of sugar
  • The juice of 1 lemon

Preparation:

We have to wash and peel half a kilo of this delicious fruit and chop them. In the pot we place them with 225 grams of sugar and lemon juice, all to cook over medium heat stirring regularly for about 10 to 15 minutes. In a separate container we will mix 25 grams of sugar with 2 grams of agar agar and then sprinkle the preparation while we continue stirring. Then we go up to high heat and give about five more minutes of cooking. Once the jam has the right consistency, we will let it cool down and sterilize it following the steps that we mentioned in our first recipe.
